Here's a look at my 90 growing up. I put a set of add-a-leaves and 33's all the way around almost immediately and was my DD until gas shot up over $3 a gallon. Then I bought me another DD and that when the transformation really began. Let me know what y'all think!

Here she is when I bought her:
http://www.pavementsucks.com/forums/attachments/200703/attachment-1151874.jpg

And on down the line. Just the add-a-leaves:

Add-a-leaves and 3" body lift"

Rear step bumper off my old 90 Z71:

Here she is stating to go under the knife. I thought I'd save time by installing the suspension lift before I got my one tons but boy was I wrong. Should have just waited. Oh well, it's done now:

http://www.pavementsucks.com/forums/attachments/200705/attachment-1176135.jpg

Almost to where I can show it off a little bit. This was killing me not driving it by this point.:

http://www.pavementsucks.com/forums/attachments/200705/attachment-1178129.jpg

I'm 5' 10" just for refernce. The tires on it here are worn out 42's still sitting on the half tons. I figure the one tons will give me almost one more inch of lift and I'm putting on new 44's once my wheels get here.:

Tore apart again waiting on my D60 to go in:

D60 in, now time to start on the 14BFF:

Shackle flip done and 14 bolt in:

Waiting on my wheels to get here so I can have my 44's mounted:

I'll be sure to post up when I get the tires and wheels on.

I've got a set of 15x14 chrome Bart's with 3" BS coming. They had to be made since they are a 15" 8 lug wheel and demand for them isn't enough to be kept in stock anywhere. They should be here in about another 3 weeks. I've got a set of black steelies I'm supposed to be getting on the cheap that I'm thinking about putting my 42's on so I can have a spare trail set . We'll see. Oh and I almost forgot, lol, here's my DD/tow rig:

Thanks! I'll have to look and see what the dates are for that. I'm going to try and make it to River Rock next month. That's if my wheels are here by then and if I can get my exhaust done so I can have a drive shaft made. If I at have my wheels by then I can at least make the ride and meet some of y'all.

Nice Blazer. How much lift do you have?

Thanks guys! I have a 3 inch body lift (really didn't want to put it on but I REALLY wanted to run 44's without cutting the body), 12" springs in the front, 8" springs in the back with a DIY4X 4" flip-n-switch with 4.5" shackles and I got my ORD Zero Rates delivered today that'll hopefully go in tomorrow. So I reckon you could say I have about 15-ish inches of lift? :D

Finally someone else running 44" on 15" rims. I love the look of big tires and small rims. Get your grinder out to shave the calipers to make them fit. Or you can run 3/4 tons by adding a bracket and rotor.

Well I got the brakes bled last night and it moved under its own power! My drive shaft is shot though. I think it's just a bad joint that ole boy used. This will be the second time I've taken it back to him to fix it. My angles are correct so I can't really see anything else that would cause it. The steering is awesome and so responsive! The brakes are great too but I know when I get the other tires on it that's when I'll really be able to tell how good everything will be. I barely tapped the gas when I put it in drive and those 5.13's turned those little 31's over. I was giddy like a school girl! Man my wheels can't get here soon enough.

Thanks! Trails, some mud, play toy mainly. I'll drive it to work every now and then. It's the stock motor that came in it with the TBI. Only 81k on the clock now. It had 68k on it when I bought it almost 2 years ago. I watched some vids of your truck last night and that thing is sweet! After I get this thing built and the bugs worked out of it I'd really love to start going to River Rock, Telico, and Uwharrie. I'm wanting to get a tow rig in the next year or so and then I'll be able to do some of the farther out rides.

I had a buddy of mine extend the front frame rails and make some new mounting brackets. The trim work wasn't that bad. We just stayed almost the the lines on the bumper and cut straight across and it came out pretty good. I can get you some pics of the mounts and a better shot of where we cut if you want.

OK, well for any of you that's been following my trials and tribulations the past week or so with my 14 bolt I have some good news. I'm getting my pinion bearings replaced for the cost of parts next week! Did I mention that I'm also getting the parts at cost? While I've got the rear tore down I'm going to replace the carrier bearings as well and I just ordered this:

http://www.shakerbuilt.com/images/PRODUCTS/32spline1410%20.jpg

1350 u bolt upgrade from the OEM strap style yoke. I would have went 1410 but I don't want to have to deal with a conversion joint again and I'm not going to be hardcore rock crawling so I should be more than fine. I'm getting it from Shakerbuilt and Tim said it should be shipped out today and I'll have it no later than 3 business days. I also called Denise at ORD and got my order together for a new crossover steering arm (the one I have now does not have a taper to it and with 12" of lift the drag link is in a little bit of a bind), raised steering block and new ARP studs. I was kind of leery about the block but this is what they recommend for my application as long as I don't go hi-steer. While I'm still waiting on my wheels, and I'll have my passenger side steering arm off anyways, I'm going to go ahead and put new kingpin springs, bushings, and retainer caps in. All in all everything ought to be in good shape when I get ready to bolt my wheels on. I talked to the lady at Bart Tuesday of last week and she told me that they are built and waiting to go to the polishing process before chroming and that they should ship in no more than 2 weeks. We'll see.

Copasetic
07-27-2007, 07:50 PM
Holy crap man. Where do I begin? OK, so those of you that have been following this, I got my new yoke in yesterday and I took my pinion assembly to my guy to have to the bearings and all put on. Well he takes one look at the pinion gear and says my gears are trashed. Just what I DIDN'T need to hear. So I came back home (30 miles) and started some searching. I found a brand new set of 5.13 Yukon's with the master install kit for $327 shipped to my door! What's even better than that is that it's expected to be here tomorrow since the shop I ordered it from is about an hour and a half away.

The place I ordered my wheels from hasn't bothered to return any of my e mails or phone calls nor bother to pick up the phone so I started talking directly to a sales lady at Bart Wheel. Instead of being 5 weeks to ship like I was told when I placed the order, it turned out to be 7 weeks. I got my tracking numbers from them just a little while ago and they are expected to be at my house on Tuesday the 31st!!!!

So if I can get my gears here tomorrow, I can take everything back to my guy first thing Monday morning and have him assemble it all so I can get it back home and put it in on Tuesday morning. (I'm working 3p-11p this week but have Wed and Thursday off) I expect my wheels will show up after I have gone to work on Tuesday so when I get up on Wed morning I'll mount my wheels, air them up and be set!

Oh yeah, I've also had to replace both wheel seals on the 14 bolt and I had to tear down the front and put all new bearings, races, and seals in it. The play on my driver's side wheel was not coming from the kingpin at all. The bearings were shot. I took the hub cover off and mud and rust fell out. So I tore both sides down completely, cleaned them real good, went to O'Reilley's and bought $120 worth of races, bearings and seal (I also had to buy a spindle nut socket) and took my rotors to a buddy's shop and had him clean those up real good and install everything for me. Got them back home and buttoned the front end up and now it's set.

Whew, I'm out of breath, lol. Sorry for the book but I know it's been a while since I've updated everything on here. Just got a lot going on at home and the only way I can vent frustration is to work on my truck. She's getting there and it's looking like next week I'll be back on the road!

Copasetic
07-31-2007, 03:55 PM
Well my gears are being put in as we speak. I'm going to go get everything in the morning so I can set my 14 bolt back up and that part will finally be finished. I took the cover off of the front and everything looked great. The r&p looked just like it came out of the box. When I disassembled the rear this morning the magnet was slam full. I put some bling on the front 60 and will wait for the rear bling after I change my diff fluid again after the 500 mile break in period. Oh yeah, my wheels are going to be here today. They are on the local truck for delivery so I'll be mounting tires tomorrow after I get the r&p installed. Good thing I'm off Wed and Thursday, lol.

How much work did you have to do to make that front bumper fit?

I had a buddy of mine extend the front frame rails and make some new mounting brackets. The trim work wasn't that bad. We just stayed almost the the lines on the bumper and cut straight across and it came out pretty good. I can get you some pics of the mounts and a better shot of where we cut if you want.

Can you hook me up with those pics? I think I am going this route.

I've got a dual setup on there. I'm thinking about getting my alt rewound but then again I won't run these at the same time out on the trail. I got the one light worKing that wasn't. It didn't have a good ground since it grounds itself when you bolt it on vs. running a separate wire. Here's some night shots. http://www.pavementsucks.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Your truck is absolutely gorgeous, I'll be running the same basic setup, and i'm glad to see that i'll be towering over the rest. How does the 350 do with the 5.13's and the 44's?

That has got to be in the top 5 nicest trucks I've ever seen. And to be able to say you did all the work yourself, and most of it in your driveway? You are AWSOME dude. I really hope I get a chance to see it some day in person. You'll be at URE in April right??!

Thanks guys! I'm really proud of myself of how it really turned out. She's still not finished yet but almost.

The 5.13's do amazingly well. If I didn't have Detroit's I'd spin the tires while taking off from a corner stop all of the time. I can still run overdrive on the interstate but there is still a lot of rolling mass so I don't run it on OD hardly at all. I also have a bone stock TBI 350. I"m hoping to have some shorty headers and new exhaust ran on it within the next 3 or 4 weeks.

I'd love to go to URE in April. I have a lot of things going on right now that will determine whether or not I'll be able to go. I'm going to the RTI build in Feb though for sure. Hope to see y'all out some time!

Thanks! I added 2 more under the rear fenders to accent the rear lights a couple weeks ago. I thought it could use a little more light back there. :D Not to mention I have 55 watt halogen back up bulbs in the tail lights as well! bing-o My 200 amp alternator came in today so I'm going to put that on in the morning when I get off work. I think I've got a bad set of gaskets because I've tightened the header bolts down 3 times and still have a header leak on the passenger side.

Well she's getting closer to getting dirty!! :D I mounted the front drive shaft today and was excited about not having to cut and reweld the crossmember like I thought I was going to have to. I AM going to have to trim the skid plate some and clearance the shaft end of the CV a little more though. I picked up a conversion joint today and going to put that in in the morning and paint it up to match. I'll get better pics of all of the clearances in the morning.

Question though. I'm planning on putting some zero rates up front to move my axle forward. What do y'all think of me getting a pair that's got 6* milled into them and taking the 4* shims off of the spring packs? I'd like to get some of that angle out of the axle yoke but don't want to end up with death wobble. Discuss! blahxx

twoslo4five0
02-23-2008, 09:43 PM
zero rates shouldnt change the caster but you really need to get an angle finder and find out what degree your at now..i think stock is like 6 to 8 i belive so if your at 14 you need a 6 degree shim...oh btw looks good

Yeah, I was figuring on 6* milled into a 1" zero rates because it has a 4* shim on the spring packs now that I'd like to get rid of. Same on the rear axle as well. I want to get a set of 2" zero rates with 6* milled into them to set it back exactly right.

Well I figured I'd give an update on her since I haven't been able to work on her in quite some time. I was able to finally get the milled zero rates ordered and installed from JKW Off Road. Quality is top notch, thanks Stephen! I took the 1" zero rates out of the rear and all 4 shims (2 front and 2 rear) and installed 1" zero rates, milled 6*, in the front and moved the front axle forward 1.5". While I had the front tore down I swapped out the driver's side leaf pack because the front had a sag of almost 2" on that corner.

Then I installed a 2" zero rate in the rear, also milled 6*. The rear axle is also moved back 1.5" but was already like that from the previous zero rate. I also got new front spring plates and u bolts front and rear from DIY4X. thanks Kert!

Well as we all know a rig is never done. :D I started buying parts for it before I even bought the truck. After I had pretty much everything I started putting it together and I think it was down about 3 months. That included tearing it down twice. First I put the lift on with some old 42's with the 1/2 axles. Drove it about 100 miles and parked it and bought my 1 tons. It would have been done sooner than that but I had to wait on my wheels.

Man!!! This has got to be the sweetest K5 I've seen. I must have printed out half a tree and wasted an ink cartridge printing this whole thread to have reading material on our trip this past weekend(when I wasn't driving). Anyways sweet ride. I would do something like that to mine, but I get my dogs in and out of mine and I kinda like how I can BARELY fit mine in my garage right now. Maybe eventually though. How tall is your blazer from ground to top of roof with those tires?

Thanks a lot! I haven't measured how tall it is from the top but I do know it's a very tight fit when I take it through a drive through. :D I do know I backed it in the garage while the top was off and had to lay the back seat down to get the rear end under the door (7' door). I'm going to try and get time to swap tops this weekend because the weather is nice again. I'll try to remember to get some numbers while I'm up there.
